I admit to being somewhat naive about breast cancer prior to this Femme Fus team and site. Like many of you, I knew that awareness is important and I had a general idea of the “1-in-8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime” statistic, but that was pretty much it.

Since then, I have learned lots! For example, from my Portland Komen Race for the Cure handbook, I learned:

* Oregon and Washington have the highest rates of breast cancer in the nation.
* Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 40 and 59.
* Read more…

Oregon and Washington state are considered to be the “hot zones” for breast cancer in the US. I had no idea! What is happening here? Why? No one knows. Yet.

So… I am not only racing for the cure, I am also racing for answers!

We need your help. Please consider making a donation on behalf a team member or the whole Femme Fus team!

Many heartfelt THANK YOUs to all who have already donated to our team! Yay! We are currently in the

Top 10 (out of 1,192 teams!) racing in the September 28, 2008 Portland Race for the Cure!
